Chapter 17: Rui Kuroki Was There

“Alright, Ryouta, I’m heading back to class first! Make sure to return the key to the faculty office!”

As soon as Miyama finished her lunch, she sprinted off, her massive breasts bouncing rhythmically as she went.

The way they jiggled was spectacular as always—a mesmerizing, heavy swaying that was almost worth catching on video.

(Miyama mentioned she’d thought of something “good,” but I wonder what she meant by that.)

She was even more of an airhead than I’d realized. I just hoped she wasn't planning on dropping another bombshell on me like the one involving Ichinose.

Miyama had come to the ridiculous conclusion that Kuroki actually liked me.

The idea of the Rui Kuroki having feelings for me was so absurd it was practically a cosmic impossibility. If I had to describe our relationship, she was like a top-tier idol sparkling on a TV screen, while I was just some random guy watching her from under a kotatsu while peeling mandarins.

It was completely far-fetched to think she’d be interested in someone like me.

Still, the fact that her attitude shifted only when she was dealing with me was… concerning.

(Is it just because we went to the same middle school?)

Since this high school was quite a distance from our old middle school, there were only three of us from there: me, Kuroki, and Tanaka—my otaku friend in the class next door.

This was one of the top public prep schools in the prefecture. While many of our former classmates had taken the entrance exam, the vast majority of them had failed.

I decided to set aside the mystery of how a busty airhead like Miyama had managed to pass the exam for a school like this. I figured Kuroki just treated me differently because seeing a familiar face from middle school was a rarity here.

(So there’s definitely no way it’s what Miyama thinks.)

“Heh… don’t underestimate my years of experience as a loner. I’m not some delusional loser who misreads every social cue.”

I locked the empty classroom and headed straight for the faculty office.

☆☆

I spent the rest of the day without catching even a single glimpse of Ichinose’s thighs. After sitting through the dull afternoon lessons with uncharacteristic diligence, school was finally over.

(Now then, what should I do with my afternoon?)

I’d been keeping a pretty busy schedule lately. I’d bought ‘Opa-sui’ at Tatsuya the day before yesterday, and just yesterday I’d gone to the arcade in the neighboring town…

(It’s raining today, and I’m broke anyway, so I should probably just head straight home.)

I finished packing up and headed toward the school entrance with my bag in hand.

In the end, I still didn't understand what Miyama meant by her “good idea,” but what was done was done.

(It hasn't caused me any trouble yet, so whatever.)

More importantly, my favorite web manga updated today. I figured I’d read that on my way ho—wait, what?

I pulled my shoes out of my shoe locker and looked up, only to freeze.

(Huh? Why is she…?)

Standing by the school entrance was a beautiful black-haired girl. She glanced back at me over her shoulder with a sharp tilt of her head.

“…Ah, you’re finally here.”

Standing there was Rui Kuroki, holding a navy blue umbrella.

“Kuroki… Rui…”

(Why is she here? It’s… it’s almost like she was waiting for me. Wait…)

When I looked closer at the umbrella in her hand, I noticed the handle was wrapped in moe-character masking tape.

“That’s… my…”

I didn't know why, but there was no mistake. Rui Kuroki was waiting for me, and she was holding my umbrella.
