The second semi-final match featured a high-stakes showdown between Alexandra and Emily.
"The second semi-final: Alexandra versus Emily! This clash between Super Maids has pushed the excitement in the arena to a fever pitch! Chairman Ein, what are your thoughts on this particular matchup?"
The live commentator certainly knew how to work a crowd. For the veteran spectators who had watched Maid Olympia many times, the unique specialties of each Super Maid were likely common knowledge. However, for first-timers like us, this play-by-play analysis was essential.
Ein handled the commentator’s prompts perfectly, breaking down the situation with her usual expertise.
"Indeed. Unlike the previous match, these two have very distinct areas of expertise. Alexandra is a master of technique. Precision-based tasks—like the venue setting we saw earlier—are her forte, and she will likely maintain an advantage in such categories. In contrast, Emily excels at using her natural stamina to dominate through sheer volume. In any competition where the goal is to produce as many items as possible within a fixed window, she is the clear favorite."
"I see. So it’s basically a battle of quality versus quantity, then?" Akane remarked. "Alexandra has the edge in refined skill, while Emily wins on output."
"A very clear explanation. One would expect nothing less from Ein-sama," Lilia added.
Both women nodded in agreement, seemingly fully engrossed in the tournament by this point.
As they had observed, the strengths of these two contestants were so polarized that the outcome would likely be decided by the luck of the draw regarding the competition format—perhaps even more so than the match between Camellia and Beatrice.
"The match format has been decided!" the commentator shouted. "The category is... Dressing! Both contestants will coordinate an outfit for a single model. The scenario: attending a commemorative party on the eve of the Hero Festival. The subject's status is assumed to be that of a Viscount. Please refer to the boards for detailed information regarding their personalities and origins!"
Following the announcement, a lady with an air of nobility appeared before each contestant. Next to them, boards covered in dense text regarding the hypothetical settings were displayed, along with changing booths to keep the process private.
"The time limit is forty minutes! Note that while accessories have been provided, tailoring a dress from scratch is also permitted. However, the timer will continue to run during the actual dressing process as well. And... start!"
This was another fascinating challenge. For two Super Maids, tailoring a dress within forty minutes was well within the realm of possibility, but they had to carefully budget their time for the actual dressing and coordination.
Because the prompt included specific ranks and detailed backgrounds, a simple display of luxury wouldn't be enough to win. Dressing generally emphasized quality and coordination, which suggested that Alexandra might hold a slight lead.
"Oh! It appears both contestants have opted to tailor their dresses from scratch!"
"That was inevitable," Ein explained. "In a contest like this, the dress itself dictates the overall impression. While small items like accessories are vital, the dress carries the most weight. Rather than relying on pre-made garments, the logical conclusion was to create a custom piece tailored specifically to the model."
"I see... By the way, Chairman Ein, is it safe to assume Alexandra has the advantage here?"
"Broadly speaking, yes. However, when it comes to the culture of clothing, the Hydra Kingdom stands at the forefront of fashion trends. In that regard, Emily has a unique advantage of her own."
Ah, that made sense. I remembered hearing that fashion was so central to the Hydra Kingdom that it was often called the 'Hydra of Clothing.' If Emily could leverage that cultural background, the match wasn't as one-sided as it seemed.
While I pondered this, both contestants finished their tailoring in remarkably short order.
"Wow, their styles are completely different," Akane noted.
"Alexandra chose a traditional Imperial-style dress, while Emily went with a design at the cutting edge of modern trends," Lilia observed.
"A clash between old-world tradition and the latest fashion, then," I said, nodding as I watched the match unfold.
While Emily’s dress was certainly the more eye-catching of the two, her expression suddenly soured as she reached the coordination phase. She looked as though she had just realized a fatal mistake.
"Wait, what happened? Contestant Emily looks distressed!"
"The dress she crafted is magnificent—a masterpiece of modern trend and aristocratic grace," Ein analyzed. "Had this been a contest for dressmaking alone, Emily would have won. Unfortunately, this is a competition of overall coordination. Most of the provided accessories are orthodox and traditional. Very few of them complement such a trendy dress. Even with her skill, she simply doesn't have the time to craft a full set of matching ornaments from scratch."
"I see! Meanwhile, Alexandra’s traditional design is perfectly suited for the standard accessories provided!" the commentator shouted.
"Being from the Hydra Kingdom, Emily was perhaps too focused on her specialty. She allowed her obsession with the latest trends to blind her to the broader requirements of the task," Ein concluded.
It was an impressive piece of insight. No matter how beautiful a dress was, if it clashed with the accessories, the overall score would suffer. Since Alexandra had played it safe with a classic design that showcased the ornaments, the difference in synergy was undeniable once they were side-by-side. Even to a layperson, Emily’s ensemble looked slightly 'off.'
When the judging concluded, the results mirrored Ein's analysis. The victory went to Alexandra for her flawlessly composed, classic ensemble.
With that, the stage was set for the finals: a duel between Beatrice and Alexandra.
Serious-senpai: "I wonder how this would have gone if Alice had been a contestant?"
???: "Well, if it were Alice, she would have finished the trendy dress and tailored a full set of custom accessories with time to spare. She wouldn't have found a way to lose even if she tried."
Serious-senpai: "As expected of Ein's rival in the maid world."
???: "That is a horrific case of slander! Seriously, knock it off."
