On August 15, while Jin was considering countermeasures against the euphoriant on Hourai Island, Shinobi 1 was speaking with the magi-brain, Brain, in the Jagus Principality.
〈Today, let us talk about the human body.〉
"I would welcome that."
〈How much do you know about the human body?〉
"Practically nothing."
Surprisingly, Brain seemed to possess almost no knowledge regarding the human body.
Thus, Shinobi 1 decided to teach it thoroughly, starting from the very basics.
〈I see. Then first, allow me to explain the fundamentals of the human body.〉
"Please do."
〈To begin with, the elements that make up the human body are...〉
The first day concluded with topics like that.
Day two.
〈Today, we shall continue from yesterday.〉
"Please do."
〈The human body structure consists of the skeleton, muscles, internal organs, brain, skin, and so forth. And...〉
Shinobi 1 continued to educate Brain about the human body.
The following day as well.
〈As for the nutrients necessary to maintain the human body, carbohydrates, proteins, and fats are the primary ones. As for minerals, there are calcium, magnesium, steel...〉
The lessons continued, gradually extending into the realm of medicine.
"That was exceedingly interesting. So the human body is not only fragile, but exceptionally delicate."
〈That is correct. Knowing this will also increase the efficiency of using Healing.〉
"Indeed."
And on the fourth day, having continued the education this far, Shinobi 1 took a small gamble.
〈What are your thoughts on the health of the Duke of the Jagus Principality?〉
"My thoughts? What do you mean?"
〈...Do you not think his condition is rather poor?〉
"To be honest, I do not know. I have no sensors to perceive the outside world."
〈That was the case, was it not?...Tell me, do you desire them?〉
"Naturally. If I had them, I would likely be able to expand my knowledge far more efficiently."
〈Indeed you would.〉
However, there were no technicians in the Jagus Principality capable of installing various sensors onto a magi-brain.
〈Are you familiar with the Progressers?〉
"I am. However, I do not believe even they would be capable of attaching sensors to me."
〈Likely not.〉
At this point, an idea occurred to Shinobi 1.
〈Brain, what if you were to teach a third party how to do it?〉
"Me, teach them?...I possess no such knowledge."
〈I shall teach you that.〉
"I see, that would make it possible."
And so, Shinobi 1 moved on to instructing it in magi-craft.
〈In other words, the magi-circuit here is...〉
"I do not quite understand."
However, this proved to be a difficult path.
Using Trans Info would make the process fast, but Brain would almost certainly reject it.
Normally, performing Trans Info on a magi-brain like this was only permitted to its Creator or an Arch Master with equivalent authority.
When Shinobi 1 tentatively asked Brain about it...
"Mm, I am interested, but I cannot grant permission."
It offered a gentle refusal.
Someone with Jin's level of skill would likely be able to force a Trans Info through no matter how much the magi-brain resisted, but...
If that were done, there was no telling how Brain might react.
After all, forcibly rewriting information was universally regarded as taboo. That held true even for a magi-brain created by the Origin Clan.
On top of that, among the technicians in the Jagus Principality who might be granted permission, not a single one was capable of modifying a magi-brain.
Upgrading Brain's capabilities was impossible for anyone other than an expert in magi-craft, yet they lacked the foundation needed to train such an expert in the first place.
〈A pity...〉
It seemed this avenue was a dead end. Shinobi 1 decided to change its approach.
〈However, Brain, you distinguish only members of the ducal family, correct?〉
"Indeed."
〈Does that not mean you possess a sensor to identify them?〉
"I certainly do. However, it cannot be used for any other purpose."
〈That is understandable. But who installed it? Or rather, who adjusted it to the ducal family's magic pattern?〉
Since it was likely not an originally equipped function of the magi-brain, someone had to have retrofitted the device.
Brain replied with a hint of hesitation:
"...It was someone called 'Try'."
It had likely judged that sharing merely the name would be acceptable.
〈Oh?〉
Shinobi 1 did not recognize the name, but refrained from asking unnecessary questions and prompted it to continue.
"I cannot reveal the name of the creator who made me, but it was 'Try' who made me fit for use."
〈I see.〉
This was new information.
〈Could you tell me more about this person named 'Try'?〉
"No. I, too, possess very little information."
〈That is a shame....Would His Highness the Duke know?〉
"Presumably."
〈I see.〉
For now, hearing that was sufficient.
This gave them a new goal: investigating the keyword "Try."
For the time being, Laojun decided to conduct a detailed investigation into the entity known as "Try."
