Ch. 2345

63-11 Meanwhile, Jin and the Others 2

By using Alloying on the steel frame with nickel and Separation on the excess, the skeleton reached Jin's desired specifications.

"All right, Eira, take care of the leg joints."

They needed to be reshaped into the Adriana-style.

Jin took charge of the upper body.

"Forming. Forming. Forming..."

Dividing the work between them allowed the task to be completed in about three minutes.

"Now then, let's use the original magi-circuits and magical muscles."

"Father, the sorting is complete."

While Jin and Eira had been reshaping the frame, Reiko had already sorted through the components.

"Oh, thanks."

Since the golem they were building this time was meant for administrative duties, precision of movement took precedence over raw power.

Thus, they routed the power-type magical muscles to the legs and waist while installing the precision-movement-type magical muscles in the arms.

"It's not like it'll be put through heavy labor, after all."

Even so, they still took precautions, applying an adamantite coating to the joints and wiring three redundant sets of magi-circuits.

"Since it's for clerical work, we won't compromise on information processing power."

With that in mind, Jin asked Kachea to fetch the highest-quality magi-crystal available in Go-lab.

He added that if anyone complained about it, he would compensate for the cost himself.

He planned to make this the primary control core while repurposing the original one as a subprocessor.

"Write In. Write In."

Jin carefully constructed the control core.

Although it was a high-grade magi-crystal, it was still inferior to those sourced from Hourai Island, so he wanted to avoid wasting any storage space on redundancy.

After setting up the subprocessor as well, right before installing it—

"Kachea, I'd like to copy your administrative knowledge."

With that, Jin cast the spell.

"Trans Info, Level 6, Mild."

He copied a portion of Kachea's clerical knowledge directly into the golem's control core.

"The visual and auditory components can be used as-is."

"Jin, what are we doing for the vocal device?"

"If we're sticking to the Adriana-style, an artificial vocal cord."

And so, they went with the mechanism that generated speech through airflow mimicking respiration.

Once Jin and Eira finished tuning the rest of the functions, the internal work was complete.

All that remained was fitting the exterior casing Reiko had prepared in the meantime, and the administrative golem was finally finished.

Its appearance was that of a slender female-type, modeled after a female clerk.

The entire process had taken about an hour.

"Man, it's been a while since I crafted something alongside Jin."

"He really is in a league of his own, isn't he?"

Eira and Kachea were well past admiration and bordering on utter disbelief, though had Jin been working at full tilt, his output would have far exceeded double this speed.

"All right, let's boot it up."

"Alrighty."

"Ah, what should we name it?"

Jin, Eira, and Kachea chimed in one after another.

"As for the name... Kachea, why don't you decide?"

"Huh? Me?"

"Yeah. After all, this golem is being made to take over your paperwork, Kachea."

"Understood....Umm, let's see. How about 'Calc'?"

Kachea chose a name derived from calculation.

"Sounds good to me."

"Yeah, that works."

With both Jin and Eira in agreement—

"All right. Start. Designation: Calc."

"Yes, I am Calc."

"Okay, Calc, operational check."

"Understood."

Calc ran through Go-lab's standard self-diagnostic sequence.

"No abnormalities detected."

"Good, mental arithmetic is next....Reiko, take over."

"Yes....What is 2,378 plus 4,679 plus 1,408?"

"It is 8,465."

"Correct....Next, what is 318 times 609 times 569?"

"It is 110,193,678."

After putting it through about ten similar calculations, they concluded there was no issue with its processing capabilities.

"All right....Kachea, work alongside her for a little while and keep an eye on things....About five days should do the trick. Once that's done, she ought to be able to take over all the clerical duties you've been handling."

"Wah, thank you so much!"

"And Eira will be around for maintenance."

At the mention of her name, Eira puffed out her chest.

"Yep, leave it to me!" she declared with confidence.

"...Speaking of Calc here, we might end up getting requests to mass-produce this administrative model," Kachea murmured, looking at Calc with a dependable gaze.

In response, Eira asked as if seeking confirmation:

"You wouldn't mind that, would you, Jin?"

"Of course not. We built it out of Go-lab's materials in the first place."

"In that case, do you mind if we credit it as a joint development between Go-lab and the Magi Craft Meister?"

"Yeah, sure, that works for me."

Jin nodded. There was no reason to be reserved about it.

"I made a template with that in mind from the start, after all."

He had used Erase on the original control core and written a fresh template into it.

With this in hand, any engineer possessing a certain baseline of skill would be capable of constructing a golem with identical performance.

"Ah, I figured as much."

And Eira and Groma Tray certainly fit the bill of engineers possessing that level of skill.

"Father, everyone, why don't you take a break?"

Seeing that they had reached a convenient stopping point, Reiko offered the suggestion.

"Right, let's stop for some tea," Jin agreed.

"Ah, is it that time already?" Eira remarked, checking the clock. It was just before three in the afternoon.

"Oh, I have the perfect snacks for tea," Kachea said, bringing out a tin of cookies.

They were standard cookies sold at the Avalon commissary.

There was a rich variety inside, some studded with dried fruit and others dusted with coarse sugar crystals.

"We ran out yesterday, so I bought some more just this morning."

"Well, I'll put on the kettle then," Eira said, starting to rise from her seat, but Kachea quickly cut in.

"Ah, I'll take care of it," she said, heading toward the kitchen.

"...Well, the tea Kachea brews always turns out better than mine anyway," Eira muttered with a wry smile.
