Even after being called a great historical figure, it did not seem to click with Jin.
"Me?"
"Of course. If the Magi Craft Meister Jin Nidou isn't a great figure, then who on earth is?"
"Jin, you really ought to be more aware of that."
Rebuked by both Saki and Reinhard, Jin finally seemed to grasp what they meant.
"...Still, though... Building something for myself feels a bit..."
While he had been thrilled to erect Marikka's monument, when it came to his own, he grew thoroughly bashful.
"Ah, right. A monument for the First Generation would be just fine."
The First Generation Magi Craft Meister, Adriana Barbora Tsetse. Building a monument or memorial hall for her was something the current Jin could undertake quite naturally.
"Hmm... I feel like people might say we should commemorate the Second Generation at the same time, but... well, that's fine... right?"
Jin strongly insisted that the builder ought to have the freedom to choose.
At any rate, the first order of business became clear.
"What do you think about building the Adriana Barbora Tsetse Memorial Hall in the Shouro Empire? We could exhibit the history of magi-craft, display replicas of monumental magi-devices, and... well, include reference materials and the like."
"Hmm, that's not bad, but it still feels a bit lonely."
Reinhard raised an objection to Jin's suggestion.
"Kufu, since it's a memorial hall, I'd want a bust or bronze statue of Adriana Barbora Tsetse, a scale model of the house she lived in, and a comprehensive summary of her achievements."
Jin nodded at Saki's advice, thinking it made plenty of sense.
"It would be nice to have a statue of the Predecessor and Ochibi together."
Reiko knew the Predecessor's appearance well, so that would pose no problem.
"Should we make it out of adamantite so it won't get vandalized or stolen?"
The idea was that it would be too heavy for anyone to carry off. Simply put, if a human's specific gravity was 1 at life size, an adamantite version would weigh twenty times as much. If her weight was forty kilograms, the statue would be eight hundred kilograms—easily surpassing a ton once the pedestal was included.
"Besides, it could double as a material stockpile."
Whenever adamantite was needed, it could simply be melted down and repurposed.
"Jin-nii, wouldn't it be better to make the statue from a different metal and only make the pedestal out of adamantite?"
No one knew if or when that day would come, but Elsa pointed out that it would be a shame to destroy the statue for raw materials.
"Ah, Elsa is right. In that case, let's make the statue from orichalcum and the pedestal from adamantite."
The orichalcum Jin referred to here was mana-infused beryllium copper. It possessed higher strength than steel and was resistant to corrosion.
Originally, there had been theories that orichalcum was a reddish metal; reasoning that it must be a copper alloy, Jin had dubbed magi-beryllium copper "orichalcum."
Later, it was discovered that the Progenitors seemed to have used it as a material for spaceships as well.
Because it was non-magnetic, it had apparently been employed in places where steel-based alloys could not be used.
"The bronze statue should go right in the center of the entrance lobby!"
"Indeed. Let's make it an open atrium with a glass ceiling... no, let's use cubic zirconia so we can install massive skylights."
Somehow, the discussion was turning into a floor-plan design meeting for the memorial hall.
"...Well, it's fun, so why not?"
Jin carried the conversation forward, grateful that Laojun would record all of this like official minutes.
"All right, what other exhibits should we set up?"
"Um, it's not quite an exhibit, but how about holding simple crafting workshops on a regular basis to appeal to visitors?"
Lishia offered a suggestion.
Indeed, Jin recalled that back in modern Japan, some stores held events like that to draw in customers.
"Sparking their interest in craftsmanship that way might be a great idea."
"Kufu, in that case, I also want a room to display standard specimens of materials used in magi-craft!" said Saki.
"Ah, good point. While we're at it, let's aim for a memorial hall where visitors can learn everything there is to know about magi-craft."
Jin was getting caught up in the enthusiasm.
"We can use automata for the receptionists, station security golems, and for the employees..."
"Hold on, Jin. If you do that, you won't be creating any jobs."
Reinhard admonished Jin for getting carried away.
"Fair point....Well, the reception is the public face, so automata would be best. The director should be one too."
General employees could be hired through open recruitment, Jin decided.
"Yes, that sounds reasonable enough."
As they ironed out various other details and took a brief breather, Jin spoke up.
"Hey, isn't Elsa pretty famous herself?"
"Eh?"
"You were a Reichsarzt, and you treated all sorts of high-ranking figures."
"U-Um..."
Asked directly by Jin, Elsa looked away.
"Haha, of course Elsa is famous. She wrote several healing textbooks, served as the honorary headmaster of a few medical schools..."
"...Rai-nii, please stop there."
Elsa blushed bright red, visibly embarrassed by the praise.
Indeed, Jin remembered how back in modern Japan, there were places like so-and-so memorial hospitals.
Then Elsa launched a counterattack.
"...If you're bringing that up, what about Saki-nee?"
"Eh?"
"Ah, that's true. Saki is publicly known as a leading authority on alchemy, especially regarding materials..."
"R-Reinhard, wait, I..."
Saki also blushed, growing thoroughly flustered.
"Beena is the founder of the Craft Queen Workshop, too, and Marcia is a legendary shipwright in Port Rock Town."
"Ah, hearing it put so formally is kind of embarrassing."
"A-Ahaha, compared to everyone else, I'm..."
"Yeah, well, I get that we've got plenty of celebrities here," Jin said with a pleased chuckle.
"For now, though, we should start by building the Adriana Barbora Tsetse Memorial Hall in the Shouro Empire."
Chase two hares and you catch neither. Jin said they should handle things one step at a time.
"True enough. It sounded so fun that we ended up getting carried away."
"Indeed."
With that, they reset the discussion.
Opinions had flown left and right, but things were finally sorted out.
"In that case, let's pick a date, head over to the Shouro Empire, and submit an application," came the conclusion.
"But Jin, what about the location?"
At Reinhard's point, Jin paused.
"Ah, we still have that left to decide."
"Personally, I was thinking on the outskirts of the royal capital, Loizart, or perhaps right along the shores of Magiroots."
"Yes, that wouldn't be bad."
"Kufu, wouldn't a location with some kind of connection be nice?"
"Come on, Saki. A place connected to me is fine, but where would a place connected to the Predecessor even be?"
"Ah, right. Now that you mention it, that's true."
Places connected to Jin would include the royal capital of Loizart, Ekishi where Elsa's family home was, or the Town of Banne where his close friend Reinhard's family home stood.
"We don't want people coming just on a lark, so maybe somewhere along the shores of Magiroots."
Koju, or Ekishi, Sagina, the Town of Banne, and Mahahama on the opposite shore were potential candidates.
"I think the Loizart side would be best, after all."
That meant somewhere around Koju.
Jin decided to make that their first choice when submitting the request to the Shouro Empire.
