Chapter 26: The Battle to Subjugate the Evil Dragon Deboa — Titan

Carrying Felice, Titan darted freely across the sky. He dodged the flames and thrashing tail of the evil dragon Deboa—that utter blockhead—all while driving destructive black earth deep into its soft underbelly.

Deboa’s grating shriek echoed through the air as blood rained down upon the earth like a torrential downpour.

“Curse you! Insolent insects!”

Manifesting countless spears of destructive earth in midair, Titan fired them at high speed into Deboa’s roaring maw.

The black spears turned even the dragon's spewing flames to dust, impaling its massive lower jaw and reducing it to ruin.

“Ha! That ought to shut your useless trap!”

With its lower jaw obliterated, Deboa’s eyes gleamed with a sinister light. Countless black spheres appeared and swarmed toward Titan all at once.

Clicking his tongue, Titan took flight to evade them, but the spheres relentlessly tracked their target.

He formed a shield of earth imbued with destructive power to block the assault.

(A fraction too late!)

His guard was a moment too slow. Through the gap, several black spheres closed in on them at blinding speed, only to be halted and briefly repelled by a translucent blue barrier that suddenly formed before his eyes.

“Now’s our chance!”

Down on the ground, a group of figures in black garb, led by a dark-skinned girl with her black hair tied in buns, were weaving signs with both hands.

It was likely a barrier erected through their techniques. In the end, it was merely human craft. It was quickly devoured and shattered by the black spheres, but it bought more than enough time for Titan to complete his shield of destruction. The black spheres dissolved like bubbles the moment they struck the shield, and Titan shot down every remaining sphere in the sky with his black earth spears.

“That gave me quite a fright, it did. Surely the sound tactic would be to coordinate with them to bring the beast down.”

At first, the slip of a girl had done nothing but scream on Titan’s back during his high-speed flight, but she seemed to have finally grown accustomed to it. Having ceased her noisy screeching, she was now offering instructions that went without saying.

“Yes, I am well aware.”

Fighting alongside these humans was the order of that esteemed personage. To disobey would go beyond foolishness—it would be pure idiocy.

In the past, the mere thought of cooperating with humans would have sickened Titan, yet now he felt no aversion whatsoever. And naturally so. Obeying this girl, Felice, was the will of the master who commanded that gathering of Transcenders. To defy him would mean Titan’s instant erasure from this world. Simply being permitted to live in that situation was cause enough to leap for joy.

Besides—

(This is overwhelming! So this is what it means to stand in that person’s ranks?!)

Power coursed through his entire body alongside this devastating ability. Merely by becoming a familiar under that master, the very density and strength of his existence had fundamentally transformed. In fact, it was practically equivalent to being reborn.

If it were the Titan of old, facing a dragon from another world would have left him with only one option: flee. Yet now, he barely even felt threatened. Even if Titan took those black spheres directly without any defense, they wouldn't inflict a fatal wound.

“Hey, humans! This is the command of that esteemed personage! Struggling is not an option! Together, we slaughter the beast!”

He shouted down to the humans looking up from the ground.

Titan had already incurred his master’s wrath once. If he did not regain his trust with his own hands, he had no future.

Kicking up vast quantities of earth and sand, he forged countless black stakes.

Gwaaaagh!”

Its eyes bloodshot with rage, Deboa shot through the sky toward Titan like an arrow, but—

“[Vine of the Fairy Tree].”

From the group clad in green robes, a magic circle flared to life. Countless vines materialized in midair across Deboa’s path, ensnaring its entire body.

At the same time, flames shaped like a flock of birds rained down from the heavens, sending Deboa's colossal frame crashing violently into the ground.

It seemed these humans were far more capable than anticipated.

“It’s over.”

Titan pointed his index and middle fingers downward. In that instant, the multitude of pitch-black stakes suspended in midair plummeted, driving deep into Deboa and wrenching a deafening shriek from the beast.

“Charge!”

Raising a longsword and shouting at the top of his lungs, a handsome blond man dressed in baggy crimson robes led the attack, and the humans rushed toward Deboa all at once.
