The conclusion was straightforward: failure. No matter how much pressure they applied, nothing sprayed out from the exit side.
"Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say that the force we're applying is escaping somewhere..." Jin muttered, resting his chin in his hand. He had just tested the theory using a Water Jet at its weakest setting.
"Escaping, you say?" Laojun asked.
"Yeah. The inherent velocity of an object drops to zero the moment it passes through the gate. I can only conclude that the energy is being absorbed or diverted somewhere between the entry and the exit."
"That would seem to be the case."
"Hmm..."
It was a difficult problem to solve.
"Does this mean energy transfer is impossible unless we uncover the reason why?"
"My Lord, what if we tried to suck the fluid out from the exit side as well?" Laojun proposed.
"Oh, that might just work. Let's try it immediately."
Jin was a man of action; as soon as the idea struck him, he moved to implement it. For this experiment, they attached Wind Thrusters to both the entry and exit sides of the Warp Gates.
"Alright, here we go."
Jin woke up the two Magi Machines.
"Oh?"
A steady breeze was blowing out from the Wind Thruster on the exit side.
"Alright, let's send some smoke through to confirm if the air we're sucking in is actually the air coming out."
Jin couldn't immediately think of a magic tool that produced smoke, so he decided to burn some dried leaves instead.
"Reiko, if you would."
"Yes, Father."
They stuffed dried leaves into a large metal can and lit them. Thick smoke rose immediately.
"Okay, let's see what happens when we let the intake catch it..."
The smoke sucked in by the Wind Thruster at the entry gate was exhausted perfectly from the Wind Thruster at the exit gate.
"My Lord, it's a success."
"Yeah. I’d say we finally have a lead."
However, the current setup was far too bulky for miniaturization, so Jin considered it only a partial success.
"Still, equipping this on the fleet will significantly expand our operational freedom."
"Indeed. Shall I continue the research?"

As a result of this breakthrough, free ether transfer devices were slated for installation on the large vessels.
The ships selected for the upgrade were the battleships Hotaka, Asama, and Myoukou; the cruisers Azusa, Katsura, Minato, Seki, Sai, Kamo, and Miya; and the special cruisers Azuma and Edo.
Since the Seki, Kamo, Katsura, Azusa, Azuma, and Edo had not yet returned to Hourai Island, the work would begin with the remaining ships.

Furthermore, Jin had crafted the mouthpieces out of magi-crystal and embedded magi-formulas within them, allowing the user to cast several specific spells.
"I focused on spells that are effective underwater," Jin explained.

Jin proceeded to explain the functions to the golem.
"The available spells are Water Stream, Absolute Zero, Sonic Boom, and Thunderbolt."
Each one had been finely tuned for directionality, ensuring the effects were concentrated within a narrow range.
"I also included a small storage compartment on the mana bombes since there was extra space. You can carry mana bombs, knives, or other small tools in there as needed."

With this, Jin felt he had taken every possible precaution.

"Laojun, it's time. Send out the South Pole Investigation Fleet."

Using the transporter, the fleet was sent to the sea area where the Hourai Island Honeymoon Fleet had just finished its survey. From there, they would push deeper into the unknown.
In exchange, the Hourai Island Honeymoon Fleet was scheduled to return to the island for its own set of modifications.
"Now all I can do is wait for the reports."
Having finished his immediate tasks, Jin took a breather and let his thoughts drift to his dear wife, who was currently visiting her family home.
"I wonder if Elsa is relaxing at her house right now."

This was the town where Elsa's family home stood.
After teleporting to the Shouro Empire with Reinhard, Elsa and Mine had spent the night at Reinhard’s residence, the Rankenhaus. The following morning, they had set out for the Randol Mansion in a carriage borrowed from Reinhard.

Familiar, nostalgic scenery began to scroll past. Elsa instinctively leaned against the window, staring intently at the view.
The carriage came to a stop in front of the Randol Mansion.

Elsa offered a brief word of appreciation to Edgar. Mine was the first to step out, followed by Elsa.
"Welcome home, Elsa-sama."
A familiar steward was there to greet them.
"I'm home, Cedric."
With tears welling in her eyes, Elsa finally passed through the gates of her family home.
