Ch. 6

Reference Material 6 (Hourai Island)

The number of assets had increased significantly, necessitating this general overview of Hourai Island.

【Hourai Island】

This was the island where Jin’s laboratory was situated. Its landmass was approximately the size of Tochigi Prefecture. It was nearly circular in shape, featuring a large bay known as Tatsumi Bay to the southeast.

Mount Hourai This extinct volcano towered at the heart of Hourai Island. With an elevation of approximately 3,300 meters, it was a conical mountain reminiscent of Mount Kaimon.

Laboratory The facility was located underground, beneath a plateau on the slopes of Mount Hourai at an altitude of roughly 1,000 meters. The scale of the base was comparable to an average elementary school building, excluding its subterranean levels.

Central Plateau An area roughly the size of Setagaya Ward, it contained ponds, groves, and grasslands. At the time, it housed orchards and fields of popcorn maize.

  • North Side: A vast sea of trees stretched across this region, providing a wealth of timber and plant resources.
  • East Side: Grasslands dotted with shrubs expanded across this area, where a ranch was being established.
  • West Side: A wasteland area where stone and iron ore were harvested.
  • South Side: This region contained wetlands, grasslands, and rivers, with plans to develop rice paddies.
  • Underground: Because work golems had been mining resources there for a millennium, the excavated space had grown to be approximately one hundred times the volume of the Tokyo Dome.

Tatsumi Bay The center of the bay was exceptionally deep, similar to Toyama Bay. Coral was harvested from the surrounding waters, and the area was equipped with a harbor and fish preserves.

Note 2: Regarding golem intelligence: The Five-Colored Golem Maids and Reiko possessed intelligence comparable to high school students. They lacked significant creative capacity for invention, though they could understand and apply instructions. Using magi-crystals for memory gave them immense retention and capacity, though it could sometimes take time to access specific information.

Note 3: The difference between golems and automata: Concerning Jin’s creations, automata like Reiko possessed actual hair, whereas golems did not (though their heads might be designed to resemble hair using their body material).
