Chapter Six Hundred and Eighty-Three: Worldview Introduction ①

Worldview Introduction ①

Galactic Empire

This was the nation ruled by our Wifey.

In truth, it was a land where Imperial Princess Luna—better known as Fairy—clandestinely pulled the strings as she saw fit. The state had originally been plagued by the tyranny of the Former Emperor Mitsusada (also known as Maro), the Duke Association, and a corrupt circle of chamberlains. Emperor Veronica rebuilt the nation from the ground up, weathering the assassination of the former emperor, a civil war with the Duke Association, and an attempted coup d'etat by the chamberlains and civil officials.

Today, the nation has transitioned into a stable structure led by the Veronica Faction—consisting largely of military houses—and the Neutral Faction. Furthermore, Leo-kun’s popularity among the Tozama Lords, primarily those of Baron and Viscount rank, was so immense that he faced no domestic opposition. However, because the power base relied on "scary old men" who would not hesitate to resort to assassination if they deemed a leader useless, even Emperor Veronica governed with a constant sense of tension.

While the Emperor was currently leading an expedition into outer space, the lords voiced no complaints, largely due to the flourishing domestic economy and Leo-kun’s success in expanding their borders. Should the Imperial family ever be completely wiped out, Fairy would activate the Galactic Empire Destruction Program. The nation truly existed on a razor-thin edge, never far from total annihilation.

Successive emperors were notoriously ill-tempered; indeed, Leo-kun’s ancestor had been granted the title of Marquis solely so the royals could "laugh at the sight of a performer suffering." Charlotte of Rosaria was thoroughly repulsed when she learned of this. "To maintain a house for centuries while feigning incompetence... was the First Head of House Kamishiro a monster?!" she had exclaimed. While her assessment was objectively correct, no one had actually realized that fact until she pointed it out.

Technological progress was driven by the war against the Zork, leading to a tactical specialization in humanoid fighters.

Chronos

Formerly a Duchy and then a Kingdom, Chronos was currently considering a transition to an Empire after effectively annexing several major powers. This was the vast nation ruled by Leo-kun, a land comparable in scale to the Galactic Empire. By incorporating Lepsitol and Parcion, it had effectively transformed into a hegemonic state. Leo-kun himself felt like nothing more than a hired manager of a convenience store, yet he had no intention of letting go of Chronos—even if he had to kill to protect it.

When the upper management was wiped out during the Locust Terrorist Attack, Leo-kun framed their deaths as a heroic sacrifice, claiming they had stayed behind until the very end to save the citizens. The Chronos citizens saw through the ruse, but they chose to embrace the propaganda anyway, preferring to accept a new era rather than cling to hatred.

Education for the children was currently modeled after the "Ju no Okite" of the Aizu Domain. Certain rules were adapted to fit local life; for example, the prohibition against eating outdoors was changed to "one may eat at stalls, but one must not litter," out of respect for Chronos’s street food culture. Similarly, the ban on speaking to women outdoors was updated to a prohibition against sexual harassment. While these changes had their critics, the citizens generally viewed them with favor.

A rapid shift toward a liberal "Galactic Imperialization" was taking place, and the only flaw the people found in Leo-kun was his excessive fondness for women. His approval rating was staggering, exceeding ninety percent. Despite Leo-kun’s attempts to manipulate public opinion in hopes of returning to the Galactic Empire, his disapproval rating remained at a mere one percent. The few who did not vote for him were simply unable to do so due to illness, work, or administrative errors.

Because he had initially lived in a nagaya rather than a palace—a fact that was frequently televised—some people still believed he lived in a tenement house to this day. Politically, the nation had moved from a democracy to the Franchise Lordship System used by the Galactic Empire. The planetary governors simply became nobles; since the positions had effectively been hereditary in practice anyway, the change caused few issues.

The economy continued to grow under Leo-kun’s influence. Members of the Officer Academy Group, such as Eddy and Isono, now ruled nearby planets as Duke-types. The palace grounds were designated a National Park, but when Leo-kun attempted to grow potatoes in sandbags within the woods, they were removed. Retired Soldier Guards were now permanently stationed there to prevent the King’s "illegal cultivation."

He eventually purchased a proper field near the palace to grow edible plants, a hobby that drew high viewership whenever it was broadcast. The palace once housed his collection of vehicles—a mamachari, a light truck, a road bike, and an American bike—but after he crashed during a bike race, they were all confiscated. Currently, he was only permitted to ride his mamachari.

The palace vicinity had become a tourist attraction where the King and his Pleasant Shopping Squad were frequently spotted. Furthermore, by subjugating the Pirate Guild, the nation secured several vital navigation routes and grew into a powerful young state.

Latarnia

Known to all as the "Dark Loan Nation," they were an ethnic group descended from former slaves. They were a long-lived species, though the infusion of blood from various other races resulted in a large population. While technically a monarchy, the royal family only intervened in specific situations like diplomacy or national emergencies. The national character was famously inflexible, prioritizing contracts above all else. It was less a totalitarian state and more a robust system of mutual aid and national protection. In outer space, where "might makes right," few civilizations understood their logic.

Though occasional conflicts of opinion arose—such as their military actions against Proone—Leo-kun always made an effort to engage them in proper dialogue. He did not just assert his own agenda; he listened to Latarnia’s side of the story as well. He conducted formal meetings to find common ground for both nations, an attitude rooted in his past aspirations to become a lawyer. This earned him immense favor, and the Latarnians engaged in all manner of political maneuvering to ensure Leo-kun remained the King of Chronos.

They were financial giants, and branches of the Latarnia Bank were ubiquitous. However, they were widely loathed as moneylenders, and it was considered a rule of thumb never to borrow money from a Latarnian. They were a radical people, a trait driven by a lingering fear of falling back into slavery. Militarily, they were a powerhouse that preferred saturating enemies with massive missile volleys rather than using humanoid fighters.

Though slavery technically still existed, it was largely a formality. The bond between the state and its people was so deep that the nation would pay ransoms for the remains of its fallen soldiers. They also possessed a natural talent for motor sports.

Taikyoku Nation

A tradition-bound nation ruled by Empress Shiyun. Though the political system was once a centralized imperial state, it had collapsed internally due to the Ghouls. Lord Eyens, a former eunuch and high-ranking executive of the Pirate Guild, protected Shiyun and helped her reclaim the country. The Former Empress had ordered Shiyun to hold them accountable and display their head, but Shiyun refused. Instead, she released the truth to the public and held a proper funeral for her.

The political situation had stabilized since Shiyun took the throne, and Lord Eyens was now revered as a national hero. Officially, Shiyun was studying in Chronos to learn the latest military science, diplomacy, and economics. However, most of her citizens were convinced she was there to marry the King of Chronos and establish a joint rule.

Had it not been for the Ghoul infestation, the nation would have been a superpower with military might eclipsing Latarnia’s. With support from the Galactic Empire, Chronos, and Latarnia, they were currently restoring their strength, and infrastructure projects were raising the standard of living. The nation had maintained its eunuch system until very recently; despite Shiyun abolishing it, Lepsitolians still viewed the institution with terror.

While the political system remained traditional, Shiyun’s reforms were slowly eradicating the remaining barbaric customs. Their national sport was baseball, and the people—including Shiyun—underwent a total personality shift when watching a game. Leo-kun and his companions made it a point to avoid the dining hall whenever crowds in red uniforms gathered for a match.
