Character Introductions for Chapter Three (Primarily New Characters Only)

Hugo Clay

Hugo was the protagonist who continued to strive toward becoming the greatest hero. As a high school freshman who had only recently enrolled, he was fifteen years old. Shortly after securing his long-awaited residence, he met the exchange student siblings from Yamato, Ryuga and Yui, and the three quickly became close friends. Following their collaboration to defeat the Gigantes, he became Ryuga’s roommate and partner. He remained active in resolving incidents caused by the Insect Museum and Kurotobari while navigating the schemes of the Reincarnators who targeted the three Warrior Shrine Maiden exchange students.

After the hospital incident, he discovered Raiha’s true identity and the truth behind Ryuga’s quest for revenge. He used his trump card, the Purple Flame Armor, against Zaraki, though the strain left him in a state of unconsciousness. Upon recovery, he rejoined the fray and helped deal the final blow to Zaraki. Because the details of the incident were classified, his heroics remained largely unknown to the public. However, he received substantial dragon materials from the Yamato noble houses and Jinba’s late partner’s crossbow as a reward. He was currently working with Anhel to enhance the Blaster. He was aware of the feelings Melt, Anhel, Setsuna, and Sakura held for him but remained confused about how to handle them without being unfaithful.

[Exchange Students from Yamato]

Ryuga Renjou

A swordsman from Yamato whose skills were so exceptional he was admitted to the academy despite the original quotas. He was the only person capable of rivaling Hugo in strength. While he initially appeared to be an affable young man, he possessed a calm and fierce nature. His life was shattered five years ago during the Mad Dragon Attack Incident, where his father, a guard, died to protect his family. This tragedy caused his sister, Yui, to lose her sight and led his mother to ruin her health.

Ryuga mastered the three styles of the Storm Dragon Swordsmanship—Wind, Rain, and Thunder—to seek revenge against the dragon. Eventually, he learned that Raiha was involved and dedicated his life to uncovering the truth. After meeting Hugo, his thirst for revenge began to soften, but learning that Raiha was the "Mad Dragon" responsible for his father's death caused his hatred to explode. Through his bond with Hugo and Yui, he eventually found liberation from his hatred and focused on the true mastermind. After saving Raiha and capturing Zaraki, he began spending his days more authentically at Luminous Academy. While he was often harsh toward Raiha, he secretly cared for her as she sought atonement. His habit of saying "Don't ask questions" was inherited from his father, and he also adopted Hugo’s phrase, "I'm shaking it off."

Yui Renjou

Ryuga's younger sister and Fee's contemporary. She grew close to Fee and developed feelings for him after he protected her during the Insect Museum incident. Despite being blind, she could see souls, which allowed her to detect the impurity in the Reincarnators and navigate in total darkness. She did not harbor hatred for the Mad Dragon and instead worried about her brother's obsession with revenge. She was instrumental in persuading Ryuga to let go of his anger. Following the resolution of the incident, she remained at the academy to live a peaceful life.

Setsuna Kogarashi

The white-haired daughter of the House of Kogarashi and one of the Warrior Shrine Maidens. Cool and observant, she was moved by Hugo's heroism during the Gigantes incident and proposed to him to secure his help in improving her shrine maiden attire. Though rejected, she became friends and rivals with Melt and Anhel. She was a master sniper using the Dragon String Bow and could manipulate arrow trajectories with the wind. While she usually hid it with a sarashi, she possessed a physique comparable to Melt's.

Sakura Amamiya

A pure and straightforward member of the House of Amamiya. Being naive, she initially believed the rumors that Hugo was a scumbag but fell for him after the Kurotobari incident revealed his true character. She was a martial artist who fought with a naginata called the Rain Dragon Naginata, made from a dragon's tail. She had a tall, slender build that was quite impressive.

Raiha Utsusemi

The daughter of the House of Utsusemi who specialized in support magic. She was a Half-dragon with a petite but endowed physique who was targeted by many Reincarnators, specifically Egos. Her father had embedded a Dragon's Eye in her to save her from illness—a taboo that led the government to treat her as an experimental subject. She was the one who rampaged five years ago as the "Mad Dragon" after being manipulated by an unknown figure. Carrying immense guilt, she initially believed she should die to atone, but Ryuga convinced her to live instead. She developed feelings for Ryuga but felt unable to express them due to her past sins. Her physique was a side effect of the Dragon's Eye affecting her growth.

[The Reincarnators]

Cyan Fail

A hot-headed youth whose plans to eliminate Hugo and take the shrine maidens backfired repeatedly. He was eventually abandoned by his party members and fell into a state of self-destruction. After trying to sabotage Neries's exam, he was defeated by his former friends and received a punch from Hugo before being expelled. He was eventually secured by the mastermind Abyss to be used for his own ends.

Egos Cutman

A reincarnated middle-aged man in a youth's body who acted entirely on his own base desires. After his attempts to kill Fee and assault Raiha were thwarted, he was expelled. He attempted a final revenge against Hugo but was confronted by Lost. He was returned to his original form as Kirio Egoshi and was erased from existence, dying in total despair.

Woz Star and Torin Mathis

Newcomers who sought to gain experience points by allowing criminals to run wild. Their selfish actions caused their reputations to plummet, and they were eventually ostracized by the other Reincarnators. Despite their failures, they intended to stage a comeback during the upcoming school trip.

[People of Luminous Academy]

Uno Castle

The Grade Supervisor for the first-year high school students. He was a responsible man who had been injured while protecting students from black crab monsters. He grew to trust Hugo deeply after the Gigantes incident and provided him with institutional support, including a room in the Fifth Dormitory. He was a dedicated teacher who prioritized student safety.

Lamy Neira

The Grade Vice Supervisor who favored the Reincarnators to further her own social standing. She held a deep grudge against Uno and despised Hugo. However, she was eventually used as a pawn by the true mastermind, leading to her professional downfall and the loss of the Warrior Shrine Maidens' magic items.

Neries Celein, Peewee Harp, and Verda Behemo

Cyan's former party members who grew disillusioned with his selfishness. After Cyan's expulsion, they were mentored by Hugo and eventually joined Misery and Hex's party. They now enjoyed a fulfilling academy life and held Hugo in high regard.

[The Perpetrators of the Incidents]

Trill and Riel

Siblings and entomologists who became Level 2 Magic Armor Beasts. Driven by a desire for revenge against the academic world, they attacked the academy but were defeated by the combined efforts of Hugo and Ryuga.

Kurotobari

A dark hero persona used by the guard Garando, who sought to execute all criminals after his own family was murdered. His radical sense of justice eventually led to city-wide riots. He was ultimately killed by Zaraki, which brought an end to the Society of Friends of the Night.

Zaraki

A heinous criminal who gained power by eating dragon flesh. He targeted Raiha as a "seedbed" for his future kingdom and sought to steal the Warrior Shrine Maidens' magic items. Despite his overwhelming power, his arrogance led to his defeat at the hands of Ryuga and Hugo. He was currently in the custody of the Security Force.

Koumaru Sakai

The true mastermind behind the events of the past five years. Posing as a diplomat, he was a scientist who orchestrated the rampages and incidents to collect data on human evolution into dragons. Though his latest plan to use Zaraki failed, he managed to evade capture and remained in hiding within the country.
